Samyang’s Carbo Buldak Bokkeumyum Is As Cute and Tasty As You’d Expect

We've tried almost every kind we can get our hands on, but Samyang's Carbo Buldak Bokkeumyum was the clear winner. Here's why.

We’ve found a new favorite! Sure, the Samyang 2X spicy was a good challenge and the Cheese Flavor was as “friendly” as it gets, but Samyang’s Carbo Buldak Bokkeumyum gets our vote for the best Samyang noodle variant. For those who are wondering, “carbo” means carbonara. I’ve heard some people on the Internet wondering if this is a low-carb version, but it clearly isn’t the case.

We’ve tried almost every kind we can get our hands on, but Samyang’s Carbo Buldak Bokkeumyum was the clear winner. Here’s why:

1. It’s still spicy af.

We find that the Carbo Buldak Bokkeumyum is spiced just right. Sure, it’s not spicy noodle challenge material, but if you’re just looking for a delicious snack on a lazy afternoon, this will do the trick. According to The Ramen Rater, the Carbo Buldak Bokkeumyum has 2,600 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), which makes it around half as spicy as the original fire noodle. We think it’s something anyone can eat without having to down several glasses of milk.

2. Its flavor is a bit more complex.

We wouldn’t say it tastes exactly like carbonara because it doesn’t. But it does have Italian seasonings mixed in, so instead of just the usual chicken flavor we know and love, this one has more complex layers of flavor. When cooked, the noodles are still as fiery red as you’d expect, and not yellowish white.

3. The pink packaging is cuter than a baby.

Admit it. If you see this adorable pink packet at the grocery store, you’d think you’re buying a harmless toy for a little girl. But don’t let its cuteness fool you! It can still be a little devil.

4. It also meets halal requirements.

Just like all the hot chicken flavor ramen variants offered by Samyang, the Carbo Buldak Bokkeumyum meets halal requirements. That’s a big yes for people who don’t eat pork!

Overall, we think Samyang’s Carbo Buldak Bokkeumyum will become a staple in our pantry. Have you tried it? What did you think?
